Since late 2005, New York based Lika Volkova and Alessandro DeVito have been striving to
create a new fashion archetype composed of provocative design and sustainable production.
After just one year, their commitment to this unique vision has proved to be a success.

SANS may have been the perfect name for this line, as it is “without” embellishments and the
trappings of trends. The design is a sophisticated investigation into form and function from
two without formal training; learning through observations and experimentation.

Lika Volkova was born and raised in the former Soviet Union. Coming from a family of
accomplished artists, she began creating her own designs at age 12. She moved to NY in
1997 and in 1999 presented her first collection under the label Antilika.
Alessandro DeVito found himself surrounded by sustainable design when he moved to
London in 2002. After this immersion he continued his education running garment
productions and developing fabrics in Europe, the US and Asia.

Lika and Alessandro met in the winter of 2004. By December of 2005 they came to the
realization they should work together.

The line is produced locally in New York and utilizes innovative fabrics which balance form,
function and impact. Wild silks, bamboo, alpaca, soy, organic cotton and organic wool among
others sourced from the world over. While mindful of the environment, they prefer to be
recognized primarily for their design and construction. Sustainable design should be common
in all collections and not a marketing angle.

With assistance provided by being awarded both the 2007 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation
(EDFF) Award and the 2007 On|Off Visionary Award (London), SANS completed their New
York Fashion Week debut and followed with an exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts during
London Fashion Week.
